Ho appena scoperto che la parola inglese "sniper" (cecchino) deriva da "snipe" (beccaccino), un uccello piccolo, veloce ed estremamente elusivo. Nel XVIII secolo, i soldati britannici in India consideravano l'abbattimento di un beccaccino un'impresa talmente ardua che chiunque vi riuscisse veniva chiamato "sniper". [fonte, commenti]
