تأتي على العبد أوقات يبتعد فيها عن كل شيء، يحجم فيها عن كل أحد إلا عن نفسه؛ يدور معها مفتشا في دواخلها، متأمّلا في خرابها، ناظرا في عيوبها... يستلّها من زحمة الدنيا، ينأى بها عن سير القطيع، يقف على حافّتها يعاين حال أهل زمانه، وكيف هو بينهم، يجاهد بكل سبيل أن يسرقها عنهم حتى لا يسرقوها.. يرى عيوبها بينهم، يتحسس غلطه وتقصيره وتفريطه، يحاول أن يخيط جراحات أثخنتها الدنيا بشهواتها وزخارفها، لا يريد شيئا سوى أن يكون نظيفا…
