The World Bank approved a $100 million IDA grant to modernize Syria's financial sector, targeting at least 15 million electronic payment transactions a year. It is the fifth project approved since Saudi Arabia and Qatar cleared Syria's arrears in May 2025, bringing the total to about $491 million.

President Ahmad al-Sharaa received UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell in Damascus, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments. The meeting comes as UK-Syria normalization remains uneven: Syria reopened its embassy in London in November 2025, with Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani raising the flag himself, but Britain's own embassy in Damascus is still not reopened.
