قال الإمام ابن القيِّم. "فالذنب إما أن يميت القلب، أو يمرضه مرضًا مخوفًا، أو يضعف قوته، ولا بدّ، حتى ينتهي ضعفه إلى الأشياء الثمانية التي استعاذ منها النبي ﷺ وهي: الهم والحزن، والعجز والكسل، والجبن والبخل، وضلَع الدَّين وغلبة الرجال." -الداء والدواء.

قال الشيخ ابن عُثيمين رَحِمَه الله: نحن نطمع في فضل الله، ذنوبنا كَثيرة عظيمة، لكن فضل الله أوسَع، ورحمته أوسَع، إذا كانت الصَلوات الخمس تُكفر ما بينها إذا لم تُرتكب الكبائر فهذا فَضل عَظيم - شرح ريَاض الصَالحين (1/189).
خير لك أن تنسى إحسانك! قال العلاّمة ابن سعدي رَحِمَهُ الله تعالى في قوله تعالى: { وَلَا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِر }: أي : لا تمنُن على الناس بما أسديت إليهم من النعم الدينية والدنيوية، فتتكثر بتلك المنة، وترى لك عليهم بإحسانك المنة، بل أحسن إلى الناس مهما أمكنك، وانس عندهم إحسانك، ولا تطلب أجره إلا من الله تعالى واجعل من أحسنت إليه وغيره على حد سواء -ﺗﻴﺴﻴﺮ اﻟﻜﺮﻳﻢ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ ❪٨٩٥❫.
قال ابن رجب رحمه اللّه: « من الذُّنوب ما ينساه العبد ولا يذكره وقت الاستغفار، فيحتاج العبد إلى استغفار عام من جميع ذنوبه ما عَلِم منها وما لم يعلم والكل قد علِمه الله وأحصاه » فلهذا قال النبي ﷺ: {..وأَستغفِركُ لِما تَعلَمُ، إنَّك أنت عَلَّامُ الغُيوبِ} -مجموع الرسائل (٣٩٢/١).
