Ella solo pensaba en volver a caminar y si no podía ser: “¡qué más da!” Dijo con una sonrisa. Abrí su libreta, la que tenía enfrente. Me dijo que pasaba las horas escribiendo historias y cosas que le parecían importantes o detalles de su vida que iba recordando. Esto era lo que escribía en todas las hojas:
Somos una historia construida sobre la base de nuestras experiencias. Somos nuestros recuerdos tal y como los recordamos. Cuando estos son un infierno, somos lo que ello implica, cuando estos son deliciosos, es fácil o previsible que las cosas vayan mejor (aunque no siempre sea así).
Sin dejar de sonreír me preguntó con cierta ternura: “¿recuperaré la memoria Dr.?”. Y yo, sin dejar de sonreír, asentí, deseando que de algún modo esto nunca sucediese o no en su totalidad.
La historia de esta chica adquiría una complejidad enorme, puesto que hasta que su cerebro se dañó, ella era la consecuencia de una infinidad de eventos vitales desastrosos, pero cuando se rompió y se borraron sus recuerdos, empezó, de algún modo, a ser feliz.
Paciente mujer, 52 años y un largo historial de eventos familiares y personales absolutamente dramáticos. Así que sentarse con ella y escuchar su historia de vida era lo más parecido a recibir una paliza emocional de cruda realidad.
