У 2001 році було опубліковано результати наукових спостережень згідно з якими кажан велетенська вечірниця полює не лише на комах, а й на дрібних горобиних птахів [1]. Chotacabras – так іспанською називають птахів, в українській відомих як дрімлюги. Українська назва відображає поведінкову особливість цих нічних тварин.
