بیماری آدمخواری در نواحی شرقی کشور پاپوگینهنو در قرن بیستم بیماریای به نام بیماری کورو (Kuru) کشف شد. علائم آن به علت اثرات نورودژنراتیو ناشی از نوع خاصی از پریون میباشد که سیستم اعصاب مرکزی رو درگیر میکرد. از جمله علائم بالینی آن به شرح زیر است: Ataxia Tremor Involuntary movements Dementia, Euphoria, depression و در نهایت مرگ! مرگ ناشی از زخم بستر، پنومونی و سوتغذیه این بیماری امروزه تقریبا ریشه کن شده است.…
