سُئلَ الجُنَيد رحمه الله: بِمَ* *نعرف أن البلاء نزل غَضَباً، أو كفّارةَ ذنوب، أم رَفعَ درجات؟ قال: بحسب ما تكون حين تَلَقِّي البلاء: إن تلقيتَهُ بغضب، فهو غضب. وإن تلقيته بالتوبة والاستغفار، فهو كفارة. وإن تلقيته بالرضا بقضاء الله، فهو رفع درجات!! للهِ دَرُّ العارفين ما أعجب هذا التحليل.
