قال الشيخ ابن عثيمين رحمه الله لو أخر الإنسان صيام الست من شوال عن أول الشهر ولم يبادر بها فإنه يجوز؛ لقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "ثم أتبعه ستا من شوال"، فظاهره أنه ما دامت الست في شوال ولو تأخرت عن بداية الشهر فلا حرج، لكن المبادرة وتتابعها أفضل من التأخير والتفريق؛ لما فيه من الإسراع إلى فعل الخير، ويُستثنَى يوم العيد؛ لأنه لا يجوز صومه.
