من نوادر صيام النافلة: صوم يوم لا يجد في بيته طعاماً يأكله. حديث هذا الصوم صحيح مشهور ، ومع ذلك كنت أستغرب من إغفاله في كتب الفقه التي طالعتها، إلى أن وجدت القاضي أبا الحسن المحاملي نص عليه في (اللباب) ص: ١٩٠ . أرى أن الرجال إن طبقوا هذه النافلة كفوا أنفسهم الكثير من الجدال مع أزواجهم، وبعضهم ربما سيصوم الدهر كله))
